Team GB Call for Hannah

Hannah Barker, aged 13, has been selected to ride for Great Britain under the title sponsor banner of Team LeMieux in the Pony European Championships. The competition takes place between the 7th – 12th August 2018 at Bishop Burton College where Hannah will compete with Ammanvalley Santino, a 14 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Lynn Barker. As one of the top riders in her class, Hannah is looking to build on a strong start to the season having recently represented Great Britain and secured a podium place after finishing joint second in their Nations Cup at the Sportridingclub Lamprechtshausen in Austria. Hannah and her team will be looking to go one better and secure the top-step of the podium following solid performances that saw Team GB share the spoils with The Netherlands after both sides finished on 8 penalties behind the Italian team who took the win with 4 penalties. Hannah took the role of anchor rider and she rode Cartouche II, a 15 year-old bay gelding owned by Ian Barker. Showing great maturity under pressure, Hannah belied her age and produced two superb clear rounds to ensure that she carried no penalties forward to the final result. She was one of only four riders to deliver a double clear. Last year was a remarkable year for the North Yorkshire youngster who claimed a Bronze medal as part of the Children on Horses Team in Belgium and secured the prestigious National U14 title at British Showjumping National Championships. Head of Forms 5 and 6 at Cundall Manor School, Louise Bessey said: “We are really proud of Hannah’s achievements to date. She is so committed to all her sport and this is a further opportunity for her to shine on the international stage.” “We will all be supporting her and we know that she will give it her all.” For further information on the show and full results once the show is underway, visit www.bishopburtonponyeuros2018.co.uk. Cundall Claim Rounders Title

TEN teams from across Yorkshire and beyond competed for the annual U11 Cundall Manor Invitational Rounders Tournament with the host team claiming victory in a tense game against a strong St Olave’s from York. The annual competition saw teams from across Yorkshire including Leeds, Stockton, York, and Doncaster compete for the coveted shield. Nearly 100 youngsters competed across a full afternoon of Rounders with competitive performances from all teams. Head of Girls Games at Cundall Manor School, Louise Bessey organised the event. She said: “We were delighted to welcome so many pupils from across our region to Cundall. Fun events like this really encourage our pupils to develop a lasting love of the game and test out their skills against some strong teams.” With 20 pool matches on show, a supportive crowd of parents saw Cundall Manor and St Olave’s make it to the final with Cundall Manor claiming top spot after a tough final. Cundall showed superb fielding and concise batting to finally defeat St Olave’s by 10 – 6 1/2. Mrs Bessey added: “The girls performed really well and it was wonderful to see them playing with a smile on their faces.” “Thank you to everyone who participated and well done to all the pupils who competed at such a high level throughout.” To find out more about rounders or how you can find a club near you, visit Rounders England online athttp://www.roundersengland.co.uk/

New Entrance Area and Front Office Announced

We are very pleased to announce that we have been successful in our application for planning permission to build a new entrance area and Front Office in Upper School. This is the latest stage in the school’s exciting development. As you may be aware, the school has been working with George F. White and identified securing the site and introducing a new entrance area as the next stage of development as the school looks to upgrade its facilities and provide the best start for our children. We recently applied to Harrogate Borough Council in order to build a single storey extension to the Upper School, with the ability to accommodate a new point of contact for all visitors, parents, pupils and staff. This will ensure that we are in the best possible position to secure our site for future developments.

Form 2 visit Apple Centre

Lots of excited children climbed onto the coach on Wednesday morning ready for their trip to the Apple Centre in Leeds. When we arrived we walked to the store. As we were a little early, we were able to look around the store at all the amazing things they make. We were given cool yellow Apple T-Shirts to wear to show that we were taking part in a workshop. Our first activity was to use iPads to make a code to steer a member of one group around a table and at each corner they had to do a challenge, like 10-star jumps. Next, we went to a sphero app on the iPads and we were given sphero robots. We had to code them through a tricky maze. We were all awarded certificates at the end, and the group that completed 2 mazes the fastest (Joseph, Austen and I) were given an Apple badge each. We all had a fantastic morning, having great fun and learning lots about coding robots. Thank you Mrs Verity, Mr Denmark and Mrs G-T for taking us.

The Willd Wood Sparks Creative Writing

Pupils from Form 6 have been exploring the Wild Wood as part of their English lesson this morning. The glorious sunshine and the wonderful environment provided our pupils with all the inspiration needed for their work. We can’t wait to hear your stories.
