Summer Fair
This year we are holding three competitions at the Summer Fair and we are looking forward to all ages getting involved. Pre-Prep – Fruit/Vegetable Animal This competition is open to all ages in Pre-Prep from Nursery to PP2. Please make a Vegetable/Fruit Animal of any kind or size. Please bring your entry to the Summer Fair by 12noon and ensure that your name is clearly marked on the under-side of your entry. Entry fee £1, Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Forms 1-4 – Miniature Garden Create a Miniature Garden in a seed tray. Please bring your entry to the Summer Fair by 12noon for judging and ensure that your name is clearly marked on the bottom of the seed tray. Entry fee £1, Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places. Forms 5 and Upwards (Including entries from parents and relatives over 13 years) To celebrate the splendour of our county, photographers young and old are being urged to get out their cameras and capture images depicting “Yorkshire”. All entries must be mounted on card and submitted to the school office by Friday 15th May. Your name should be clearly marked on the back of the card and, if not a pupil, then you should state who you are related to at Cundall Manor School. All photographs will be returned after the competition. Entry fee £1, Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Home Produce Stall As well as these competitions there we also be a ‘home produce’ stall where we would be very grateful for any donations of home-made food items such as fresh vegetables, home-made chutneys, jams, eggs etc. Any donations can be made during the week commencing 11thMay or on the day at the Summer Fair, donations of cakes and other freshly prepared produce can be delivered to the kitchen on Either Friday 15thMay or on the day of the Fair itself. As usual the Fair will include a children’s toys and games stall; please can any donations of toys, games and DVDs be left in the foyer of Main School and/or Pre-Prep. Halloween cake stall
Thank you to everyone who supported the Friends’ Halloween cake stall both with purchases from the stall and with wonderful contributions of appropriately themed cakes and treats.
Cundall Ladies’ Lunch
The Cundall Manor Ladies’ Lunch at Swinton Park last Thursday, was another resounding success. Ladies were entertained by Patrick Macbeth playing jazz on the piano before lunch whilst, after the delicious meal, Francis Macbeth provided the piano accompaniment to Ione Cumming. Mother to Form 5 pupil Alexander Cumming, Ione is an extremely talented opera singer whose stunning performance had the whole room mesmerised. Friends of Cundall chairwoman Mrs Susan Edwards said a few words about the year’s fundraising and the many exciting events the Friends have in the pipeline. Susan and the Friends Committee would like to pass on their sincere thanks to Felicity Cunliffe Lister and staff at Swinton Park for making the luncheon so successful.
Friends Cake Stall
Thank you to everyone who supported the Friends’ cake stall on Friday, both those that donated such a super array of goodies, and those who so willingly handed over their pocket money in exchange for a sticky, gooey, crumbly, creamy, chocolaty start to the exeat weekend.
Cundall’s Call My Bluff
Whilst Cundall prides itself on offering a broad and varied curriculum for our pupils, it was a lucky gathering of Cundall parents who whose educational horizons were broadened earlier this month when they came together for a Call My Bluff style wine tasting evening. In the cosy setting of the School Library and with a truly fabulous selection of wines provided by Johnnie Pearson, the team of wine ‘buffs’ (Johnnie, Richard Notman and Simon Vale) entertained the assembled guests with their novel and often hilarious appraisals of each bottle, the novelty and hilarity increasing exponentially as the evening (comprising four red, two whites and an increasingly redundant spittoon) progressed. A huge thank you to the Friends of Cundall who made the evening possible, to those who provided the scrumptious cheese boards and nibbles to accompany the wines; to those who so generously donated raffle prizes, and to all those parents who supported what proved to be a truly entertaining – and educational – evening.
Cundall’s new cookery room
There have been the most wonderful smells drifting across Cundall Manor School this week….chocolate, pancakes, cookies and buns. All made by the pupils in our beautiful new kitchen. We are the proud owners of a fantastic new space all thanks to the generosity of The Friends, Mr & Mrs Greenwood, a few other kind benefactors and, of course, the site team. The new kitchen is fully equipped with two hobs, two ovens (Bake Off style!) and a stunning range of colourful utensils. The pupils who have used the kitchen so far (and they range in age from our youngest Main School pupils to our oldest Upper School ones!) have been very excited. There is doubt that everyone who uses it will benefit enormously.
A Pre-Prep Special Delivery
A fantastic post-Christmas treat arrived for the children of Reception and Nursery! A huge thank-you goes to the Friends of Cundall for funding some new play equipment for the EYFS outdoor area. The children have braved the cold temperatures this week to enjoy playing on the new bikes, exploring the new farm and fire station sets and even had a duck race on the water channelling equipment, even if the staff did have to melt the ice first!! The children can also look forward to the introduction of other new items as the term progresses such as den making equipment and large scale construction sets. In addition, the Friends’ donation has funded some small world and role play resources. PP2 are already using the Space resources as a prompt for learning about Space and as inspiration for story telling and writing.
