It’s a high tea celebration in honour of Her Majesty
Boarding pupils from Cundall Manor School joined in the Queen’s birthday celebrations as they held a high tea in honour of the monarch’s official birthday. Children from Cundall Manor celebrated the Queen’s 90thBirthday in a traditionally British way, enjoying tea, finger sandwiches, cream cakes and many more treats. The school, based near Topcliffe in North Yorkshire, have been enjoying a host of royal related activities over the past year. Boarding house master, Gary Coates, helped organise the event. He said: “Our boarders always enjoy a celebration and a high tea in honour of the Queen’s birthday seemed an apt way to celebrate the occasion.” Boarders helped decorate the dining room in red, white and blue and even helped deck the hall in union flags. The Queen’s official birthday follows her actual birthday in April in a tradition that is thought to date back to the reign of King George II in 1748. Boarding House News
The Boarding House was positively buzzing before the half term holidays. The House Parents, Mr Coates and Mrs Conway were treated to a super Spanish supper created and served by Pol, David and Daniel. The supper consisted of tapas, gazpacho, paella and crema catalana. It was an absolute treat and enjoyed by everyone – muchas grasias! Super Sunday was quite literately bouncing as 17 extra boarders joined the House and went in search of fun at Gravity, Xscape. It was exhausting just watching, but everyone had a really good time, followed by a hearty supper and a return to the House for chill time and lights out. But the fun didn’t stop there. Tuesday evening saw the hosting of the termly tea party for the Boarders, this time with a Hawaiian theme. Party games galore kept the children entertained: limbo party, beach ball bonanza, and of course prizes for the best dressed. The children had a great time and said a big thank you to all of the staff involved in organising it for them and a special thank you to April and Linda for providing a super Hawaiian themed supper. The fun just never ends in the Boarding House!
Scarecrow Festival
Congratulations to everyone who came and joined in our inaugural scarecrow festival just before half term. The fabulous fruits of their labours added an extra dimension to life around the school grounds (there were several double takes to check whether these unfamiliar characters on the premises were in fact real!) in the run up to the half term break.
Work, work – play!
It’s work, work, work in the Boarding house! Never have the older pupils been so keen to knuckle down to their studies than with their new desk lamps on their personal desks in their dorms. Meaning there’s plenty of room for the younger boarders to spread themselves out along the tables in the Library during evening prep sessions. With preps out of the way for the evening, there’s always time for fun and games, be it parlour games in the Boarders’ Common Room or something more energetic in the gym.
Christmas treat for the Boarders
The boarders’ winter wonderland Sunday afternoon trip was a great success. The afternoon started with a bit of retail therapy followed by fun on the ice skating rink. This was backed up with a very welcome hot chocolate and cookie and ended with a few thrilling rides on the funfair. Tired but happy the Boarders arrived back at the house for a great supper and an evening chilling in front of the TV. On Monday night the Boarding House was abuzz with preparations for the Festive High Tea. All the boarders donned their smartest outfits to sit down for a very special supper prepared by April and Sylvia. With beautifully decorated tables, crackers, music and even a special Christmas punch, the dining room looked quite magical as the children took their places for their own special Christmas celebration to mark the end of term and the start of the Christmas countdown.
