A moment in time captured for future boarding school students
Pupils from a leading North Yorkshire school attempted to capture what life is like in 2016 as they joined thousands of pupils across the country to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Boarding Schools’ Association. Pupils from boarding house at Cundall Manor School, based near Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, buried the time capsule to mark national boarding week. Items include a school prospectus, yearbook, calendar, a recent sports day itinerary, coins, a mobile phone, the Cundall cookbook, a school scarf and a letter from a pupil at the school. Hundreds of other schools in the BSA simultaneously took part in the event. The time capsules will be opened at the 75thanniversary of the BSA in 2041. Housemaster, Gary Coates, was pleased to commemorate the event. He said: “The Golden Jubilee of the BSA is a big event. For us as a boarding school, it allows us to join in with the celebration nationwide.” He added: “It was really interesting asking our boarders what they would like to put in the time capsule. A taste of enterprise for business students
Pupils from Cundall Manor School are cooking up a taste for enterprise as they launch a pop-up restaurant. The year 9 pupils are taking on the challenge as part of the school’s business studies course. The 14 year-olds have been working on organising the annual event which sees nearly 50 parents, friends and family visit the restaurant. The youngsters develop their own business including the purchasing of the materials, advertising the event and even devising their own menu, cooking and serving the food. The visitors are then asked to pay for the meal as to how much they think it is worth. Debbie Partington, Head of Business at the school, set them the task. She said: “Our annual pop-up restaurant has regularly proved the highlight for many of our pupils on our business course.” “The restaurant allows them to take control from the beginning and deliver profits based on how well they perform.” The pupils received fantastic feedback from the guests who enjoyed a full 3 course meal at the school. One guest, Chris Jay, said: “The food was very nice and we had a great evening.” The profits from the event will be used to by the students to arrange a trip away, while any excess cash will be given to a charity of their choice.
